Further cementing myself as a walking middle-aged pandemic cliche, I have joined TikTok. And followed all the dance video trends.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me this affluent aesthetic that’s all over the app? It’s all same-same. High-end gray or white shaker cabinets. Or navy and modern. White backsplash. Either flush lights or angular gold or amber lighting pendants. A large island. High-end grayish-brown wood-like flooring. I call it HGTV aspirational.
How. The. Hell. These young people – in their 20s & 30s – have much nicer homes than me? My interior is 1979, slightly modernized. But mostly not updated. And it’s at the top end of my budget.
How do all the TikTokers afford these places? With their spacious, open-concept kitchens spilling into living rooms, sparsely furnished so as to provide the immaculate backdrop for dance videos? With their “furloughed so here I am making TikToks?!” I’m so confused.
